Number Uno:

Making people fall into other universes. Whether it's fanfiction or an original story I'm working on, I have a fondness for writing character-falls-into-other-universe stories.

One of my favorites was the first version of a Lord of the Rings fanfic called 'the Rift.' However, the character of the OC lead was flawed. I was going to redo it so the character was a black African woman in Kenya who just accidentally got mixed in with the plot (an innocent bystander put in harm's way who has to be protected). The 'GFOU' part of the story? She has to be put in Middle-Earth for her protection. The Rift was a sci-fi Middle-Earth story where some one found a way to cross into one alternate universe to another. Turns out everything we write or think gives birth to an alternate universe. Unfortunately, there's a dark side to this marvelous discovery. The Rift is unstable and since it's creation thousands of people have been sucked into strange new worlds, damaging time continuity and destroying huge chunks of universes. There are also those who wish to destroy the Rift by destroying all other parallel universes, even if it means the destruction of the real world and imagination. Everyone who knows about the Rift is a target. Including the lead character of 'The Rift.'

Another favorite was a Naruto fanfic about a woman (and mother of two) from the Great Depression who ended up in an alternate Naruto world (where ex-Kazekage Gaara was female and had been blinded by chidori while protecting Naruto). I researched a lot about Indiana and had even picked out her town. Unlike most of my 'fall into universe' stories, she wasn't even the main character of the story. The woman, called Betty, was frantic when she appeared in the Naruto world, unable to speak Japanese and desperately looking for her two girls, who had been in dire trouble when she vanished. Betty eventually calmed down enough to start to learn basic Japanese and find a job as a seamstress to earn enough money to hire ninjas to help her find a way back home. Unfortunately, this story was lost when my old computer drive busted.

Currently, I'm working on a Naruto fanfic involving a pregnant child prostitute with herpes, a deaf girl, and a wheelchair-ridden boy suffering from Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). Like most of my stories following this plotline the initial response to falling into another universe is shock, panic, depression, and a lack of ability to understand the people around them. The only one who doesn't want to return to the real world is the child prostitute, since she had no future in the real world, even though this means she might forget her first language (Spanish). However, the boy is divided because he develops a bit of a crush on Ayame, even though he wants to get back home to his family. The deaf girl has a crush who lives in the real world and has to be around the boy all the time since he's the only one who knows American sign language besides her, so is probably the most eager to get home.

In original stories, I'm fond of writing stories about time-travel. I'm talking about people traveling to the time of the dinosaurs to stake out a living because the modern world is too crowded. I prefer realism over the blood-and-guts dinosaur=monster genre. Velociraptors are more likely to be wary of humans than attack and would likely run off at the sound of a gun firing and yelling. A mere fire would keep them away easily since fire would mean danger, same with waving a torch or burning branch in their face. Of course, a flashlight might also scare them since its a foreign light. It's much more likely the number one danger to time-traveling colonists would be disease and lack of knowledge of prehistoric plant-life. Imagine an extinct virus spreading to the humans from herbivores such as Triceratops, and thus nearly wiping out entire colonies. It's possible humans will find a way to use the ferocious T.Rex to their advantage by finding a way to use selective breeding from a distance to produce a docile miniature T.Rex for tracking down prey or missing people like a bloodhound, or use small pack predators like velociraptor instead of dogs when hunting.

Number Dos:

Crossovers. I enjoy reading cross-overs. When they are well written and fresh. It's really hard to find a good crossover. So I write 'em.

You think I think an artist’s job is to speak the truth. An artist’s job is to captivate you for however long we’ve asked for your attention. If we’ve stumbled into truth we got lucky.
